Research advances for the mechanisms of insect herbivores adapting to host plants by salivary glands
In the course of long-term coevolution, insect herbivores and host plants have evolved various defense and counter defense mechanisms.Salivary gland secretions play a key role in the adaptation of insect herbivores to plant defense. We aim to reveal the mechanisms of how insect herbivores rely on salivary glands to adapt to host plant defense at both macro and micro levels. Here we reviewed the research progress of insect salivary enzymes in regulating host plant defense by modulating stomatal dynamics in plants, adapting to plant cell wall, and degrading plant defensive compounds.Meanwhile, this article introduces the intrinsic molecular mechanisms of insect salivary effector factors how to cope with plant defense responses. In addition, according to the advancement of new technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9,plant-mediated RNAi,and nanomaterial-mediated RNAi,we analyses the development space of pest control technology developed based on insect effect factors,in order to provide theoretical basis and practical guidance for the elevation of crop resistance and the improvement of integrated pest management ability.
