Progress in research on the effects of thiamethoxam on honeybee health
The neonicotinoid insecticides are widely used to control plant pests and pathogens. However, drug residues caused by excessive use of the neonicotinoid insecticides,e.g.thiamethoxam in the main nectar source plant rape and cotton in China, pose a serious threat to the health of pollinators. In this paper,we summarized the negative effects of thiamethoxam on the ability of foraging and reproduction and physiology and immunology of honey bees,as well as the synergistic action with environmental factors. We highlighted the necessity of developing new effective pesticides that is safe for the non-target insect pollinators.
