Feeding selection of 10 gramineae plants by the Ceracris kiangsu Tsai
Ceracris kiangsu Tsai is a kind of extremely harmful grassland and forest pests, which mainly harms gramineous plants.Mastering the feeding habits of C.kiangsu can provide a theoretical basis for its prevention and control.Ten species of gramineous plants were selected in this study:Lolium perenne L.,Sorghum hybrid sudangrass,Sorghum sudanense(Piper)Stapf,Bromus cartharticus Vahl,Imperata cylindrica(L.)Beauv.,Zea mays L.,Bambusa textilis McClure,Indocalamus tessellatus(Munro)Keng f.,Phyllostachys sulphurea(Carr.)A.'Viridis',Fargesia spathacea Franch. The feeding ability, feeding preference, feeding frequency feeding time between locusts and adults at different ages were studied. The results showed that the intake of C.kiangsu continued to increase with the increase of age.C.kiangsu in the second to fifth instars preferred gramineous forages.C.kiangsu in the second to fifth instars consumed the most, which began to overeat at the third instar and reached the peak at the fifth instar.Adults of C.kiangsu preferred to eat bamboos and corn,of which maize and green bamboo were preferred, and adult females eat more than males. The activity time of the yellow ridge bamboo locust was closely related to the temperature and light of the day. There were two peaks in the feeding frequency of the day(i.e.,10 a.m.to 12 a.m.and 15 p.m.to 18 p.m.).The results provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of C.kiangsu, and also provide basic data for the artificial breeding, development and utilization of C.kiangsu.
