Study on the toxicity of Metarhizium anisopliae CQMa421 and Beauveria bassiana ZJU435 to red imported fire ants Solenopsis invicta and synergistic effects of polysiloxane on the two strains
To explore the biological control methods of red imported fire ants Solenopsis invicta, the toxicity of Metarhizium anisopliae CQMa421 and Beauveria bassiana ZJU435 to fire ants were evaluated, the synergistic effects of polysiloxane on the two strains were also tested. The results showed that the LC50 of M.anisopliae CQMa421 to fire ant workers was 9.16 × 106spores/mL basing on the mortality of fire ant at the 10th day;the LT50 were 3.534 d basing on the mortality of 8 × 10s spores/mL.The results showed that the LC50 of B.bassiana ZJU435 to fire ant workers was 1.5 × 105 spores/mL basing on the mortality of fire ant at the 10th day;the LT50 were 0.218 d basing on the mortality of 1 × 109 spores/mL.Mixed with concentration of 0.5 µL/mL polysiloxane and above can significantly increase the toxicity of lower concentration M.anisopliae CQMa421 and B.bassiana ZJU435 against fire ants. The field trials results showed that the comprehensive control effect of the mixture 0.5 μL/mL polysiloxane and 3.2 × 107 spores/mL M.anisopliae CQMa421 was 83.99%;and the mixture 0.5 μL/mL polysiloxane and 4 × 107 spores/mL B.bassiana ZJU435 was 90.44%.The comprehensive control effect of two strains were lower than that of the commercial products 0.1%indoxacarb bait which was 93.89%.Our study showed that M.anisopliae CQMa421 and B.bassiana ZJU435 had high toxicity to the fire ants and had great potential on the biological control of fire ants.
