A rapid identification method for pupae and adult male and female individuals of Aglossa dimidiata
To establish a method for rapid identification of pupae and adults of Aglossa dimidiate, the external characteristics of pupae and adults were observed and counted by KEYENCE VHX-6000 digital camera and scanning electron microscope, respectively. The results showed that the female pupae had a flat longitudinal crack on the ventral surface of the 8th abdominal segment, that was the reproductive pore, which was farther away from the anus, and the segments were not distinct. While the male pupa's genital orifice was in the 9th abdominal segment, and there were half verrucae protrusions on both sides of the genital orifices, and the genital orifices were closer to the anus, and the segments were more distinct. The female adult had a relatively thick abdomen with a cylindrical end and rounded annular hairs, whereas the male adult's abdomen was smaller, and had an inverted triangular shape and scent bristles. The method was used to identify 200 pupae of both sexes and 200 moths with 100%accuracy.These results will lay a foundation for the study of sexual behavior, chemical ecology, and the exploitation and utilization of resource insects.
