From"First Combination"to"Second Combination":An Observation with"Order Reconstruction"at the Centre
"Reconstruction of order"is a basic mission for modern China.By returning to the perspective of"civi-lization"and a correct comprehension of the"ancient vs.modem China"dispute as well as the"China vs.West"dispute,we observe that,from the"first combination"to the"second combination",the Communist Party of Chi-na has always responded to the mandate of"reconstruction of order"issued by the time.In combining Marxism with Chinese specific reality,China has transcended the development path of"going from an empire to a nation-state"and has maintained the basic conditions for a self-shaped and self-sustained Chinese civilization in terms of the overall territory and population.In combining Marxism with the better part of the traditional Chinese cul-ture,China has activated the cultural ethos and institutional design characterized by an expanding circle"from the family to the country and finally to the world",and transformed it into a type of modem civilization with in-herent vitality.In the incremental development of the"two combinations",the Chinese people have rebuilt the civilized order of their lives and consolidated the continuity of Chinese civilization.They are more qualified than ever to settle the two disputes mentioned in the above and to contribute China's strength to the solution of the crisis of current human order in pursuit of a better way of life.
