Geographical Space Writing in Bai Juyi's The Everlasting Regret
The Everlasting Regret written by Bai Juyi is a model of long narrative poetry in China.The poem tells a poignant love story between Tang Xuanzong and Yang Guifei and it involves many geographical space.Bai Juyi's superb narrative art is also reflected in his arrangements and writing of geographical space in poetry texts.In the architectural space of Tang Dynasty palaces,there are dual metaphors of politics and love;In the road space of the journey back and forth between Chang'an and Sichuan,the flowing narrative is presented in this circular space;In the fictional fairyland space,an innovative love myth based on inheritance is created.Bai Juyi used his innate artistic sensibility and superb creative techniques to reshape and recreate the geographical space of reality in literature.He combined his emotional experience with the love legends of Li and Yang,overlaid the real geographical space with the created textual space,and finally completed this great artistic work.
