Dominican American writer Julia Alvarez's Before We Were Free is set in the history of Trujillo's dictatorship.It describes the efforts and sacrifices made by people to fight for freedom and democracy under violent dictatorship,and tells the trauma suffered by children under the shadow of violence and terror.Starting from the traumatic psychology of Dominican child Anita,the article focuses on analyzing her traumatic experience and the role of expressive function in the process of wound healing,and exploring the root of trauma.
