A Metaphoric Comparative Study of Temperature-Sensation Words"Leng/Cold"in Chinese and English
Temperature is one of the earliest cognitive domains for humans.There are numerous words in both Chinese and English to describe temperature sensations,collectively known as temperature-sensation words.They not only refer to the physical sensation of temperature but also extend to categories related to human psychology and attitudes,expressing concepts expanded from the notion of temperature.From the perspective of cognitive linguistics,the study,based on metaphor theory,systematically explores domain mapping patterns of basic temperature-sensation words"leng/cold"in Chinese and English and summarizes the conclusion.In addition,due to the influence of language and culture,the mapping pattern of"leng/cold"presents a phenomenon of coexistence of similarities and differences.
