In 2001~2002, the Anyang Archaeological Team, IA, CASS, excavated House-foundation No.1 in the palace area of the Shang period Huanbei City-site. The work covered an area of nearly 8000 sq m and revealed 2/3 of the foundations. The vestige has a "回"-shaped plan and occupies an area of 16000 sq m with an azimuth of 13 degrees. The building complex consists of the gate-room, main pavilion, nearby corridors, western side pavilion and long corridors on the two sides of the gate-room. An eastern side pavilion must have been in the east of the foundations, beyond the coverage of the excavation. As the largest-sized Shang period palace remains known so far, House-foundation No.1 is of great significance to studying the history of Chinese architecture and the development of Chinese palaces.
