In 2023,salvage excavation of a tomb was undertaken by the Gansu Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology et al.at Huangwan,Gaoling Village,Zhongchuan Township,Huining County. The tomb is a wood-imitation single-chamber brick tomb. The walls of the burial chamber and corridor are adorned with model print pictorial bricks. The tomb occupant was deliberately arranged in a"Nirvana"posture, positioned on the southern side of the burial chamber.Unearthed artifacts include pottery, porcelain, wooden Buddhist beads,a brick epitaph, and a wooden portrait plaque.Based on the painted depiction of the tomb occupant and the inscribed wooden portrait plaque, this study demonstrates that the tomb occupant was the Buddhist monk"Master Zhijian,"and the tomb dates to the first year of the Zhizheng reign of the Yuan Dynasty(1321 CE).Excavation of this tomb provides important material for studying burial practices and customs associated with Yuan Dynasty monks'tombs in the Gansu region.
