From 2016 to 2018,the Henan Xinzhai Team of the Institute of Archaeology,CASS et al.conducted excavations in the core area of the Xinzhai site.More than 800 features were uncovered,including building foundations,houses,midden pits,hoards,midden ditches,sacrificial pits,and foundation sacrifice pits.Pottery vessels,along with high-ranking artifacts such as jade huang pendants,jade bi discs,copper chisels,and turquoise fragments,were unearthed.Amongst them,one rammed earth building foundation dating to the Xinzhai period,and the other no later than the first period of the Erlitou culture,provide new material for studying the functional layout of the core area of the Xinzhai site,once again highlighting its function as a capital city.
