From 2020 to 2024,the Xi'an City Institute of Cultural Relic Conservation and Archaeology,in collaboration with Shandong University,conducted excavations in western Yuedengge Village,Yanta District,Xi'an City,unearthing over five thousand tombs dating from the Western Han Dynasty through the Ming and Qing dynasties.Amongst them is the tomb of He Shou,the Librarian in the Editorial Service of the Heir Apparent of the Tang Dynasty,which is remarkably well-preserved.The tomb of He Shou is a single-chamber shaft tomb with double light wells and a long sloping passageway located in a corner of the tomb chamber.The tomb is positioned on the north side,facing south.Unearthed grave goods include artifacts made of pottery,porcelain,bronze,and a stone epitaph.He Shou,courtesy name De Ren,was interred in the first year of the Zhenguan reign of the Tang Dynasty(627 AD),as recorded in both the Old Book of Tang and New Book of Tang.The identity of the tomb occupant and the date are all confirmed,and the assemblage of unearthed artifacts is almost complete,providing new material for the study of funerary culture during the beginning of the Tang Dynasty.
