In 2019,the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology et al.conducted excavations at loci Ⅰ-Ⅲ of the Longbohe site in Jinping County,Yunnan, and discovered houses, charging pit,and furnaces, along with pottery and stone objects, including pitted hammerstones, casting moulds, and crucibles used for metallurgy,as well as a large amount of slag. The Longbohe site is a metallurgical site that spanned both China and Vietnam, integrating mining, smelting, and casting. Each locus is situated around one hill, with a three-dimensional layout of smelting activities based on natural topography. These loci were characterized by small-scale smelting operations,a low variety of metallurgical products, and a low level of production intensity. The discovery of this site provides important reference for understanding metal production and social organization in the Upland Southwest China during the Bronze Age,as well as the origins and spread of metallurgical technology into Southeast Asia.
