From 2005 to 2007,the Hebei Work Team of the Archaeological Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences conducted surveys and excavations of kiln sites in Nanying Village and Mengzhuang Village in Jiangwucheng Township,Cixian County. These kilns primarily produced ceramic architectural materials such as bricks, tile ends, pipes, and chiwei(owl-tail)ornaments.The kilns are concentrated in the western side of the Yecheng site, adjacent to the Jiangwucheng site. The kilns are arranged in a neat and orderly fashion, and a wide variety of high-quality tiles were unearthed.Based on the stratigraphic relationships of the kiln sites, the structure of the kilns, the formal characteristics of the ceramic architectural components,as well as textual information, these kilns can be preliminarily dated to the Sixteen Kingdoms period. These kilns are closely related to the period when Yecheng served as a capital city. This excavation provides important data for exploring handicraft production,tile-making techniques, and the evolution of building materials in Yecheng during the Sixteen Kingdoms period.
