In August 2000,the Changsha City Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology excavated an Eastern Jin tomb M1 at Guihuaping in the southern suburbs of Changsha. This brick tomb has a transverse front hall with ante-and rear chambers.Unearthed artifacts are made of pottery, porcelain, bronze, gold, jade, along with ceramic figurines and models of cattle, horse, and ox-drawn carts. The discovery of a complete set of"Jiankang-style"ceramic figurines is unique for the middle Yangtze River during the Eastern Jin period. This excavation provides significant material for studying burial system and funerary customs of local high-ranking aristocrats during the Eastern Jin period,as well as the dispersion of tomb culture from the capital,Jiankang.
