Archaeological exploration into the origins of Mesopotamian civilization can be summarized through three methods:the first is the social evolutionary approach, exemplified by V.G.Childe's theory of the Urban Revolution, which comprehensively examines cultural and technological developments since the Neolithic Revolution, reflecting changes in the economic infrastructure and superstructure. The result of these changes was the creation of urban societies distinct from those of the barbaric age.The second approach, represented by R.McC.Adams'settlement archaeology,is the cultural ecology perspective. It focuses on population aggregation and urban expansion within an environmental context, which disrupted traditional kinship relations and led to the formation of regional geo-societies akin to city-states.The third approach is the"globalization"perspective,as represented by G.Algaze's Uruk World System. This approach emphasizes the rise of civilizational centers through cultural interaction and economic competition with peripheries, leading to comprehensive advancements in culture, economy, and politics.
