Impact of the External Knowledge Search of Internet Enterprises on their Exaptation:A Case Study of the Mediating Role of Dual Capabilities
Exaptation,an important source for enterprises to make innovation,is a reverse innovation mechanism in which products create a market,namely,having the answer first and then searching for the problem.Searching for and accumulating diversified external knowledge is the key factor affecting the exaptation of Internet enterprises.Based on the perspective of dual capabilities,this paper makes a theoretical analysis and an empirical test to examine how the process of the external knowledge search of Internet enterprises affects their exaptation.The findings show that the external knowledge search of Internet enterprises has a positive impact on their exaptation and the knowledge search promotes their exaptation by improving organizational dual capabilities,that is,dual capabilities play a partial media-ting role,but the mediating role of exploration capability is greater than utilization capability.The con-clusion can be helpful guidance for Internet enterprises to improve their organizational dual capabilities by adopting knowledge search strategies as a way to promote their exaptation and gain competitive ad-vantages.
