The Influence of Civilized City Selection on Environmental Governance:A Quasi-natural Experiment Based on Data from 278 Prefecture-level Cities in China
Civilized city plays a very important role in improving urban environmental pollution control.Selecting the panel data of 278 prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2019,the PSM-DID(propensity score matching-differences-in-differences)method is used to test the impact of civilized city selection policy on urban environmental pollution control.The research found that the selection of"civilized city"significantly reduced the total sulfur dioxide emissions of prefecture-level cities by about 9.87%,and promoted urban environmental governance.The selection of"civilized cities"can improve urban environmental pollution control by increasing scientific expenditure.The mediating effect of scientific expenditure in the selection of civilized cities on urban environmental governance.
