The Impact of Non-economic Field Tournaments on Urban Economic Growth
The non-economic championships have a wide range of social influence in China.The national civilized city evaluation is the most typical representative of the non-economic championships in China.Based on the results of the fifth national civilized city evaluation,taking the data of 66 prefecture-level cities in China from 2012 to 2021,the difference-in-difference(DID)method is applied to systematically evaluate the impact of the national civilized city selection on local economic growth.Benchmark regression analysis and robustness results show that the selection of national civilized cities has promoted urban economic growth.The research results can provide an empirical basis for the economic growth of the national civilized city evaluation,and provide important enlightenment for optimizing the national civilized city selection criteria to achieve high-quality sustainable urban development.
