There is a highly positive correlation between the level of disciplines and the level of university devel-opment,which greatly affects the status and academic reputation of universities.Doing a good job in discipline construction is crucial to creating world-class universities.This paper comprehensively explains the concept of disciplines and deeply discusses the significance of disciplines to education,science and technology,and talents.On this basis,the key content and key measures of discipline construction are considered and studied.Taking Northwestern Polytechnical University as an example,the school's experience in serving the national strategic needs,carrying out talent training,scientific research,and teacher team construction are introduced.
