At present,problems such as single methods and separation of learning and application exist generally in the teaching of English in higher vocational colleges,leading to students'weak ability of practical English ap-plication,and low level of learning motivation and participation.Based on the production-oriented approach(POA)as the theoretical basis,this paper aims to explore an improvement plan for English reading teaching com-bined with the existing smart teaching model,improve students'ability of English reading comprehension and practical application skills through innovative teaching methods,and stimulate their learning interest and autono-mous learning ability.Specifically,by emphasizing output drive,input facilitation and language output through the production-oriented approach(POA),combined with the concept of smart teaching,teaching effect can be im-proved and students'ability of practical language application can be enhanced with the help of technology-assisted means.
