Archetypal criticism as a genre of literature criticism plays an important role in analyzing literal works. In this paper this theory will be utilized to interpret the two protagonists Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton in The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. The analysis of the prototypes of the two characters helps to reveal the deep human psychology as well as uncover the profound the moral theme in this work. However, due to the defect that this theory focuses on the generality while almost ignores the individuality, this paper will also probe into the Wilde's special artistic views on this two characters.
