Green development is a fundamental guideline and an important tool for realizing the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.Based on data from 30 provinces in China from 2011-2021,the impact of local governments'environmental attention on green development and the spatial effects are explored at the provincial level. The results show that government environmental attention positively contributes to green development, and that increased preference for environmental issues by local governments inhibits the level of green development in neighboring regions. In order to accelerate the overall green transformation of economic and social devel-opment,local governments need to rationally allocate their attention resources according to local conditions, and actively take on the important task of"greening"and doing a good job of ecological and environmental governance across the region. The study provides a new basis for local governments to rationally allocate their attention, implement the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
