Progress in the Application of the Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element Method in Proppant
In the development of unconventional tight/shale reservoirs, the migration law of proppant has an im-portant impact,so it is critical for fracturing operations to clarify the migration law of proppant in fractures.CFD-DEM(Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element Method)simulation technology has high resolution for the fluid-particle system, which provides an effective method for studying the migration and distribution of prop-pant.This article reviews the latest progress of this simulation method in the study of the migration of proppant, makes an in-depth analysis of its unique advantages in the study of the migration law of proppant, analyzes the prin-ciples and characteristics of the CFD-DEM model, and summarizes the migration characteristics and distribution laws of proppant under different environmental conditions,so as to reveal the complex mechanism of the migration of proppant more comprehensively and accurately, and promote the development of unconventional oil and gas ex-ploitation in a more scientific, efficient and sustainable direction.
