On the Yunnan-Guizhou Travel Records of the Ming and Qing Dynasty
In Ming and Qing Dynasties,the central government's management of Yunnan-Guizhou area gradually penetrated from high-level organizations to grassroots society.With the increase of communication and integration with the inland,especially the frequent exchanges of officials,there appeared a large number of Chinese Yunnan-Guizhou travel records.The author collected 67 volumes,including 9 in Ming Dynasty and 58 in Qing Dynasty.These travel records,mainly to and from Zhili and Yunnan-Guizhou,as well as Jiangnan and Yunnan-Guizhou,which was corresponding to the political and economic pattern at that time.With the deepening dominion of the central government and the expansion of geographical cognition,the regions involved in Yunnan and Guizhou travel records in Ming and Qing Dynasty were more and more extensive.The authors of the travel records were mainly officials,most of whom were from the other provinces to Yunnan and Guizhou because of the regional avoidance system.The specific main reasons for travel were relegation,serving as an official,invigilation,handling military affairs,declare,handling cases,and the minor reasons were geographical investigation,searching for relatives,sightseeing,pilgrimages,catching examinations,mineral investigation and geological exploration.Yunnan-Guizhou areas of Ming and Qing Dynasty were the new world where less literati and officials entered before,and so it was very attractive to them and provided a new soil for their literature and painting creation.These travel records are not only excellent literary works with scenery and narration,but also provide a large number of precious historical materials about the traffic,politics,economy,military,local customs,education,mineral resources,geography and climate of Yunnan and Guizhou in Ming and Qing Dynasty.Many tourist attractions in Yunnan and Guizhou were developed in Ming and Qing Dynasty,due to the limited traffic conditions,the distribution of scenic spots along the road is concentrated,and the related poetry records are rich,which can be described as the cultural wealth of these scenic spots.Yunnan-Guizhou travel records retains the history of scenic spots and accumulates the cultural deposits of scenic spots,which has important reference value for the development of Yunnan-Guizhou tourism industry today.
