A Multilateralist Approach in China's Practice in International Law:An Extended Analysis Based on The Law on Foreign Relations of PRC
In clarifying the vagueness of discourse on multilateralism in international relations,recourse shall be made to normative standards based on consensus.What features China's practice in international law is its multilateralist approach with maximum international consensus,a triune structure with three essential elements:the normative values provided by the concept of community with a shared future for mankind,the multilateral platform with the United Nations at its core and the rule of law in international affairs.This approach may be ascertained by inquiring the fundamental principles practiced in and followed by The Law on Foreign Relations of PRC.China's multilateralist approach to international law embodies the essence of international law of co-operation and has contributed to further developments in many respects.This multilateralist approach with maximum consensus can function as standards for testing pseudo-multilateralism and selective multilateralism,help to eclipse the binary opposition between friend and foe,and the fault lines of global conflicts are expected to be bridged in partnerships and converging of interests among states and nations of the world.
