Objective Explore the influence of water temperature variations on the flowability, working time, setting time, and deformation of alginate impression materials. Methods Four different water temperatures were used to mix alginate with a full-automatic impression mixing machine, grouped according to different water temperatures(8 ℃,14 ℃,23 ℃ and 32 ℃),and the work-ing time and setting time were observed and measured by comparing the flowability of alginate impression materials on the glass plate;a mold kit was used to prepare the impression and observe its deformation. The data was statisically analyze using the SPSS 24.0 soft-ware package and compare the differences between the groups. Results The flowability of the alginate impression materials prepared by the four different water temperature was in order of 8 ℃ group>14 ℃ group>23 ℃ group>32 ℃ group, and the difference between groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).The working time and the setting time in descending order was 32 ℃ group<23 ℃ group<14 ℃ group<8 ℃ group, and the difference between different groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).The working time of(29.3±1.0)s and setting time of(41.0±1.4)s in the 32 ℃ group,as well as the setting time of(133.2±3.8)s in 8 ℃ group, did not meet the requirements for clinical application. There was a differences in deformation between the groups, but it was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion Within a certain range, the water temperature has a negative correlation with the fluidity, working time and setting time of alginate impression materials.A water temperature of 14~25 ℃ is suitable for clinical use.
