Investigation into the understanding and utilization of cold-light bleaching among stomatology residents undergoing standardized training:a cross-sectional study
Objective:This study aims to investigate and analyze the understanding and utilization of cold light whitening treatment among the stomatology residents undergoing standardized training in Shanghai.The goalis to optimize the clinical teaching program reasonably and enhance the quality of standardized training teaching for the dentists.Methods:A questionnaire survey was conducted among stomatology residents receiving standardized training at the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.The survey collected basic participant information and included questions regarding their understanding,utilization,and professional knowledge of cold-light bleaching treatment.The data obtained were analyzed for final results.Results:A total of 142 valid questionnaires were collected.The bleaching treatment methods recognized by stomatology residents included cold-light bleaching,family bleaching kit and laser bleaching.Among them,91.04％were aware of cold-light bleaching,but 31.34％of the students were still unfamiliar with the specific operational steps,and only 42.54％had applied cold-light whitening in clinic.Concerns regarding tooth sensitivity and pain and uncertainty about long-term effectiveness were the main reasons for not applying cold-light bleaching treatment.In terms of professional knowledge,61.96％knew the light source of cold-light bleaching,72.83％knew the main components of cold-light bleaching agent,and only 20.65％knew the wavelength of the light source.Conclusion:Factors such as the major,education level,type of postgraduates,and training stage were found to be related to the understanding and utilization of cold-light bleaching technology,as well as the mastery of professional knowledge level.Stratified teaching should be implemented for different types of residents along with providing corresponding equipments and teachers.Moreover,increasing clinical practice in cold-light bleaching treatment is necessary.It is also important to promote strictly standardized operations to guide students in making reasonable diagnosis and treatment decisions while formulating individualized treatment plans.
