Objective:Secondary closed-mouth impression method was used to make accurate final impression for edentulous patients with severely atrophic alveolar ridge. The morphology of complete denture base margin and tissue surface is more accurately obtained,so as to improve the use effect of complete denture in edentulous patients. Methods:In this study,30 edentulous cases with significant alveolar ridge atrophy were randomly selected and equally divided into the observation group and the control group. The control group were subjected to primary closed-mouth impression, and the observation group were subjected to secondary closed-mouth impression for complete denture.A detailed comparison and analysis of the effect of complete denture use in two groups of edentulous patients. Results:The edentulous patients with severe resorption of alveolar ridge with the denture had significantly less pain and the performance was better than that of the control group in several important indicators such as retention score, hardness rating score of chewing foods, and patient satisfaction by the secondary closed-mouth impression method(P<0.05),which showed statistically significant differences. Conclusion:For edentulous patients with severe alveolar ridge absorption, the use of secondary closed-mouth impression is beneficial to improve the restorative effect of complete denture. In clinical practice, this impression making method can be used to improve the overall use effect of complete denture and patient satisfaction.
