Anterior teeth esthetics is an important part of facial esthetics, and the color of anterior teeth is one of the main factors affecting the esthetics of anterior teeth.Discolored teeth can usually be restored to normal color by bleaching or restoration treatment. With the increase of patients'awareness of minimally invasive surgery, the acceptance rate of full crown restoration decreases, and veneer becomes the priority of patients'anterior esthetic restoration.Traditional resin veneers are easy to stain and have poor mechanical properties, which are rarely used in clinical practice.Porcelain veneers have good stability, translucency and mechanical properties. As a minimally invasive aesthetic routine method, porcelain veneers are used to restore discolored teeth. The restoration of discolored teeth with porcelain veneers requires consideration of the degree of discoloration of the abutment teeth, and its color blocking ability is not as good as that of all ceramic crowns. The opaque effect of porcelain veneers on discolored teeth is mainly affected by the material of porcelain veneers, cement and abutments. In addition, denture processing, color of adjacent teeth, and intraoral environment can also cause the final color change of porcelain veneers. This article reviews three main factors affecting the masking ability of porcelain veneers by referring relevant domestic and foreign literature, which can be used as a reference for clinicians when porcelain veneers are used to restore discolored teeth.
