Currently, dental implant has become an important method to repair losing teeth. However,a multitude of studies have indicated that individuals with diabetes not only demonstrate inferior implant osseointegration capabilities, but also have a markedly elevated risk of implant restoration failure in comparison to their non-diabetic counterparts. As a result, improving the success rate of implant surgery for diabetic patients has gradually become a research hotspot in the field of oral implants. This article analyzes the possible factors and mechanisms affecting osseointegration capabilities of implants in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients from clinical, tissue, and molecular perspectives, and elaborates on methods to enhance the success rate of implant surgery in this population, aiming to provide references for subsequent basic research and clinical applications.
