Research progress of the relationship between temporomandibular joint structure changes and temporomandibular disorders in patients with mandibular deviation
Mandibular deviation is a common facial asymmetric deformity in clinical practice, manifested as a deviation of the mandibular chin from the facial midline by 2 mm or more than 4 mm.It not only affects aesthetics, patients with mandibular deviation are often accompanied by joint click, pain and abnormal mandibular movements. This may be related to the morphological alterations that occur within the joint in patients with mandibular deviation, which may lead to the occurrence of temporomandibular disorders(TMDs).On the other hand,TMDs that occur during the growth and development of adolescents may affect the development of the condyle and mandible, leading to the occurrence of malocclusion.Currently, there is limited research on the relationship between these two issues domestically and internationally. This paper analyzes the morphology and position of the condylar process and articular disc of patients with mandibular deviation to explore the relationship between the structure of the temporomandibular joint in patients with mandibular deviation and TMDs,and to provide reference for the early prevention of TMDs in patients with mandibular deviation.
