The Effect of Industrial Structure Upgrading on the High-Quality Economic Development of 15 Prefectures(Cities)in Xinjiang
Achieving high-quality economic growth in Xinjiang is of major relevance as it aims to transform the resource-dependent industry of the region into a high-tech,high-value sector. This study uses a two-way fixed effect model to examine the effects of industrial structure upgrading on the high-quality economic development of 15 Xinjiang prefectures(cities)'between 2011 and 2020.The empirical study reveals that most Xinjiang prefectures and cities have the high-quality economic development level, which is steadily increasing. The prefectures and cities in northern Xinjiang have a higher remarkable level of high-quality economic development than those in southern Xinjiang.Over the past ten years, there has been a trend toward a narrowing of the high-quality economic development gap between North and South Xinjiang. With all things considered, the upgrading of the industrial structure has aided in the excellent development of the Xinjiang economy. The degree of economic liberalization and the caliber of the labor force have encouraged Xinjiang's economy to develop in a high-quality manner.More than in southern Xinjiang, the upgrading of the industrial structure in northern Xinjiang specifically encourages high-quality economic development. The modernization of Xinjiang's industrial structure and its superior economic growth are correlated in an inverted"U"fashion.Based on this,it is proposed to promote synergistic development among different industries and upgrade the industrial structure through rational planning of the industrial layout in Xinjiang;to continue to unleash the potential of the resource advantages of the southern prefectures(cities),to consolidate the industrial base, and to narrow the gap between the economic development of the southern prefectures(cities)and that of the northern prefectures(cities),so as to realize the high-quality development of the Xinjiang economy.
