Does Smart City Construction Enhance the Effectiveness of Social Governance? An Empiri-cal Test Based on Micro Data from the Comprehensive Social Survey of China(CSS)
The research utilizes a logistic regression model and data from Chinese Social Survey(CSS)to explore the impact of smart city construction on social governance effectiveness. The study focuses on the effects of smart city development on overall social evaluation, public participation, and social security, while considering control variables such as age, gender, and marital status, and using internet usage as an instrumental variable to address endogeneity issues. The empirical results show that smart city construction significantly enhances overall social evaluation and public participation, especially in the assessment of social security services. However, its impact on social trust and fairness is not significant. These findings reveal the potential of smart cities in improving the efficiency of social governance and enhancing the quality of life for citizens, providing empirical support for the role of smart cities in the modernization of social governance. The study offers important theoretical and empirical foundations for the development and governance model innovation of smart cities.
