The Influence of Knowledge Relationship on Radical Innovation in R&D Cooperation Model:The Moderating Effect Based on Knowledge
Knowledge relationships between collaborators are an important resource for companies to innovate.Based on the theory of enterprise knowledge, the impact of knowledge relationship between focus enterprises and collaborators, namely knowledge complementarity and knowledge substitution,on breakthrough innovation performance,as well as the moderating effect of knowledge base diversity and knowledge base complexity on their impact, using the patent data and financial data of listed companies in Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and their collaborators from 2008 to 2020 were used to verify the relevant hypotheses and test the robustness. The results show that knowledge complementarity between focus enterprises and collaborators has an inverted U-shaped impact on breakthrough innovation, while knowledge substitution negatively affects breakthrough innovation.Knowledge base diversity steepens the inverted U-shaped relationship between knowledge complementarity and breakthrough innovation, and knowledge base diversity enhances the negative relationship between knowledge substitution and breakthrough innovation.Knowledge base complexity steepens the inverted U-shaped relationship between knowledge substitution and breakthrough innovation, and knowledge base complexity slows down the negative relationship between knowledge substitution and breakthrough innovation. The research results provide theoretical support for enterprises to improve breakthrough innovation performance from the perspective of knowledge relationship between collaborators.
