Can Digital Literacy Help Rural Labor Achieve High-quality Employment?
The high-quality employment for rural laborers is an effective way to promote urban-rural integration and achieve common prosperity.Using data from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)from 2014,2016,2018,and 2020,this study employs a fixed effects model to examine the impact of digital literacy on the employment quality of rural laborers and its underlying mechanisms.The research findings show that digital literacy significantly improves the employment quality of rural laborers,and this result remains robust after using instrumental variable methods,the Heckman two-step method,and a series of robustness checks.Social capital and overeducation are key mechanism variables,meaning that digital literacy can enhance employment quality by expanding social capital and mitigating overeducation.The impact of digital literacy on formal employment is greater than on informal employment,and its effect on improving the employment quality of leaders is higher than that of non-leaders.Among the different dimensions of employment quality,digital literacy has the greatest effect on work intensity and the smallest on welfare benefits.
