Internet Use,Social Capital, and Older Adults'Well-Being:Empirical Analysis Based on 2020 CHARLS Data
With the acceleration of population aging,it becomes crucial to focus on the spiritual well-being of the elderly.Utilizing data from the China Health and Aging Tracking Survey(CHARLS),this study systematically investigates the role of Internet use in enhancing the well-being of the elderly and its under-lying mechanisms. The empirical findings demonstrate a significant positive correlation between Internet use and the sense of well-being among the elderly.Employing the instrumental variable"installation of broadband"and the 2SLS regression model to address selective bias in the sample, the results consistently affirm the beneficial impact of Internet use on the happiness of the elderly.Mediation effect analysis further reveals that both individual and collective social capital mediate the relationship between Internet use and the well-being of the elderly.
