The supply-demand balance optimization model was modified , a general urban land use analysis model established based on a high density and high intensity district in Jinan , China.Floor area ratio ( FAR) as the only variable was remained in the model formula after calibrate other parameters in Jinan city .Comparing to the current standard published in 1995, there are three levels describing how FAR impacts network density index .All the analysis was carried out under the same traffic mode in Jinan city .First, if the average FAR is less than or equal to 3, a reasonable traffic supply will be got using the road network index recommended in the standard .Sec-ond, if the average FAR is more than 3 and less than 5, increasing the road network density and road area ratio can match the demand at the expense of bad road hierarchy .At last , if the average FAR is more than 5 , there is no calculating results from the model which means the current planning method is failed and comprehensive strategies such as traffic demand management are required .
