Can the Digital Background of the Executive Team Improve Corporate Innovation Performance?The Mediating Role of Resource Allocation and Technological Progress
In the era of digital economy with increasingly fierce market competition,digitally oriented innovation activities are more important to the survival and development of enterprises,which makes competence in digital technology a necessary skill for executive teams.Based on a sample of 2,282 listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares from 2007 to 2022,this paper explores the mechanism of the influence of the digital background of the executive team on the innovation performance of enterprises.The results of the study show that the digital background of the executive team has a significant effect on corporate innovation performance.The digital background of the executive team mainly enhances corporate innovation performance through resource allocation and technological progress;management power plays a positive moderating role between the digital background of the executive team and corporate innovation performance,and between the digital background of the executive team and digital investment.In addition,the effect of the digital background of the executive team on firms'innovation performance is more significant among firms in non-state-owned,non-high-tech industries,while the mediating effects of resource allocation and technological progress are significantly different among different types of firms.The findings of the study provide important insights into the formation of corporate executive teams and the selection and recruitment of executives.
