Possible Ways to Realize Economic Justice and Democracy——a Review on Robin Hahnel's Theory of Participatory Economy
In his book Economic Justice and Democracy,Robin Hahnel critiques capitalism's destruc-tion of economic justice and democracy in terms of unequal income distribution, asymmetric information, and severe environmental damage. After defining the economic justice and democracy,a participatory e-conomy is proposed as an economic alternative based on a variety of value criteria such as self-manage-ment,justice,sacrifice and sustainability. This model distributes social resources fairly and efficiently through Worker Councils,Consumer Councils and Participatory Planning.Although Hahnel's ideas didn't shake the foundation of the Capitalist system, his emphasis on the importance of workers'subjectivity and the creativity of the proposed economic system have positive implications for critizing of the Capitalist mar-ket economy system and understanding the propositions claims of left-wing scholars in the West today.
