A Review of the Development of Tertiary Education in the Pacific Island Countries from the Perspective of the Belt and Road Initiative
The tertiary education of the Pacific Island countries has been developing.However,due to the remote location and limited economic development,there are some problems with the tertiary education of these countries,such as limited resources,the lack of complete tertiary education systems,lack of teaching staff and the low level of research of the staff.At the same time,both the enrollment rates the retention rates are low and the tertiary education highly depends on foreign aids in these countries.Therefore,under the framework of the"Belt and Road"Initiative the following approaches can be taken to enhance the cooperation and communication between China and the Pacific Island Countries:building Luban Workshop,establishing Confucius Institute,Confucius Classrooms or centers of teaching Chinese,providing scholarships to students to study in China and carrying out scientific cooperation,especially cooperation on maritime science and actions dealing with climate changes with tertiary institutes of these countries.As a result,a model of cooperative and"win-win"development of tertiary education will be built between China and the Pacific Island Countries.
