Differential Diagnosis of Absorbable Pulmonary Ground Glass Nodules and Lung Adenocarcinoma on CT Scan:A Comparative Study of Conventional Parameter Characteristics and Texture Analysis
Objective To investigate the diagnostic performance of conventional CT parameters and CT texture analysis parameters in differentiating absorbable pulmonary ground glass nodules from lung adenocarcinoma nodules. Methods Imaging data of 152 patients with pulmonary ground glass nodules in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively.Of these,65 patients were classified into clinically absorbable group, whose pulmonary nodules were disappeared in the followed 3-6 months or disappeared after anti-inflammatory treatment, and 87 patients were classified into malignant group, whose pulmo-nary nodules were resected by surgery, and a pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of malignancy.Conventional CT parameters and CT texture analysis parameters of pulmonary nodules were obtained by analysis software.Difference in conventional parameters and CT texture analysis parameters between two groups were compared. Finally, two binary logistic regression prediction models were constructed to compare their efficacy of differential diagnosis for malignant pulmonary ground glass nodules. Results Long diameter, short diameter, average diameter, volume, solid part space occupying,maxi-mum CT value, minimum CT value, average CT value, lobulation sign, burr sign, pleural indentation sign were found to be significantly different between the two groups(P<0.05).A total of 56 variables obtained using CT texture analysis showed statistically significant between groups(P<0.05).Binary logistic regression analysis indicated that maximum CT value,lob-ulation sign, hair prick sign, pleural indentation sign, entropy, mean value of positive pixels, inverse difference, surface area to volume ratio could be used as independent predictors for differentiating between absorbable ground glass nodules and ma-lignant ground glass nodules. There was no significant difference between conventional parameter prediction model and CT texture analysis prediction model in discrimination performance(P=0.542).Conclusion Conventional CT parameters and CT texture analysis of pulmonary ground glass nodules have definite value in differentiating pulmonary absorbable ground glass nodules and malignant ground glass nodules.
