Correlation Analysis of Fat Distribution and Peripheral Blood Inflammatory Cell Markers in Middle-Aged and Elderly Populations Based on Quantitative CT
Objective To investigate the correlation between fat distribution and peripheral blood inflammatory cell markers in middle-aged and elderly population. Methods A total of 2141 middle-aged and elderly physical examiners who underwent chest CT combined with quantitative computed tomography(QCT)at the Department of Health Management of Henan Provincial Peoples Hospital from January 2021 to January 2022 were retrospectively selected as the study sub-jects,and their age, body mass index(BMI)and blood lipid index were measured using QCT at the same time.Body mass index(BMI),complete blood count, and lipid profile were collected, and the body fat distribution of the subjects was meas-ured using QCT.Men and women were divided into<60 years old and ≥60 years old groups with 60 years old as the cut-off age,and the correlation between body fat distribution and neutrophil-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio(NHR),monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio(MHR),and lymphocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio(LHR)was analyzed by inde-pendent samples t-test,Pearson correlation analysis and partial correlation. Results In both groups,<60 years old and≥60 years old,men had higher BMI,NHR,MHR,LHR,visceral fat area, liver fat area, and muscle fat content than women, but subcutaneous fat area was lower than that of women(all P<0.05).The results of the Pearson s correlation analysis showed that in the group of men aged<60 years old,the subcutaneous fat area was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.180,r=0.245,and r=0.246)(all P<0.05),and the visceral fat area was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.266,r=0.297,r=0.232)(all P<0.05),and liver fat content was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.165,r=0.196,r=0.169)(all P<0.05);in the group of men aged ≥60 years, the area of subcutaneous fat was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.152,r=0.158,r=0.155)(all P<0.05),and the area of visceral fat was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.325,r=0.312,r=0.244)(all P<0.05),and liver fat content was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.176,r=0.204,and r=0.151)(all P<0.05);in the group of females aged<60 years, the area of subcutaneous fat was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.225,r=0.196,and r=0.243)(all P<0.05),visceral fat area was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.371,r=0.302,r=0.347)(all P<0.05),and liver fat content was positively corre-lated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.331,r=0.250,r=0.237)(allP<0.05);In the group of women aged ≥60 years, visceral fat area was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.322,r=0.294,and r=0.208)(all P<0.05),and liver fat content was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.180,r=0.241,and r=0.146)(all P<0.05),while subcutaneous fat area was not correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(all P>0.05);in different age and gender groups, muscle fat content was not correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(all P>0.05).After correcting for age and BMI,partial correlation analysis showed that in the group of men aged<60 years, the area of subcutaneous fat was positively correlated with MHR and LHR(r=0.073,r=0.098)(both P<0.05),the area of visceral fat was positively correlated with NHR and MHR(r=0.118,r=0.128)(all P<0.05),and the content of hepatic fat with NHR,MHR and LHR were positively correlated(r=0.069,r=0.091,r=0.070)(all P<0.05);in the group of men aged ≥60 years, visceral fat area was positively correlated with NHR and MHR(r=0.222,r=0.202)(all P<0.05),and hepatic fat con-tent was positively correlated with MHR(r=0.121)(P<0.05);in the group of women aged<60 years, visceral fat are-a was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.238,r=0.198,and r=0.231)(all P<0.05),and liver fat content was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.219,r=0.160,and r=0.143)(all P<0.05);in the group of women aged ≥60 years, visceral fat area was positively correlated with NHR,MHR,and LHR(r=0.230,r=0.245,and r=0.165)(all P<0.05),and liver fat content was positively correlated with MHR(r=0.195)(all P<0.05).Conclusion There were correlations between fat distribution and NHR,MHR and LHR in the middle-aged and old-aged medical examiner groups, and MHR was positively correlated with visceral fat area and liver fat content in different age groups of different genders.
