Study of applying intraoral scanning in implant-supported single crown restoration of posterior teeth
Objective:To compare the accuracy of intraoral scanning and conventional impression technique in im-plant-supported single crown restoration of posterior teeth. Methods:Ten implant working casts of lower first molar missing were selected as original casts.Open-tray impressions and close-tray impressions were made using conventional impression technique and poured with dental plaster.Implant surrogates were attached to implant scanbodies. Two groups of digital casts were obtained by extraoral scanning of plaster casts.Another group of digital casts were obtained by intraoral scanning of orig-inal casts. The implant positions was obtained by matching the scanbody data with the database data of the same model with 3Shape software.Three-dimensional plane of the implant was set by the Appliance Designer 3Shape software, and the three-dimensional deviations of implant positions between groups were analyzed with Ortho Analyzer 3Shape software. Results:Using the implants in open-tray group as a reference, compared with conventional open-tray impression technique, the mean buccal/lingual distance deviation,mesial/distal distance deviation and vertical distance deviation of implant position using conventional close-tray impression technique were(0.013±0.045)mm,(-0.029±0.091)mm and(0.003±0.529)mm.The mean buccal/lingual angle deviation and mesial/distal angle deviation were(0.010±0.273)° and(-0.400±0.837)°.The mean buccal/lingual distance deviation,mesial/distal distance deviation and vertical distance deviation of implant position u-sing intraoral scanning were(0.013±0.024)mm,(0.001±0.063)mm,(-0.017±0.040)mm.The mean buccal/lingual angle deviation and mesial/distal angle deviation were(0.240±0.455)°,(0.130±0.660)°.There was no statistical signif-icance of implants between intraoral scanning and conventional impression technique(P>0.05).Conclusion:Intraoral scan-ning can be applied in the impression making of implant-supported single crown restoration of posterior teeth. There was no significantly different intraoral scanning and close-tray or open-tray technique, which can meet the clinical needs.
