Observation on learning efficiency and brushing effect of Bass and Fones brushing methods in children of dif-ferent age groups
Objective:To explore and evaluate the effects of different age groups of children using the Bass and Fones brushing methods on plaque removal and the efficiency of children mastering different brushing methods.Methods:Six-ty-four healthy children aged 6~12 were selected as the research subjects, including 32 children aged 6~9(with 16 males and 16 females each),32 children aged 9~12(with 16 males and 16 females each),were randomly divided into the Bass group and the Fones group, with the same number of males and females in each group. The Bass group children used the Bass brushing method to brush their teeth, while the Fones group children used the Fones brushing method. The plaque removal rates before and after brushing were recorded and calculated, and the learning time of the two brushing methods,as well as the frequency of guidance needed during the brushing process, were also recorded. At the same time, the plaque removal effects of the two brushing methods in the anterior and posterior areas were compared. Results:Among children aged 6~9 and 9~12,the plaque clearance rate of Bass brushing method was higher than that of Fones brushing method, and there was a statistical difference between the two(P<0.05).Whether using Bass or Fones brushing methods, children aged 6~9 learned to brush their teeth longer than children aged 9~12,with significant differences(P<0.05).At the same time, children aged 6~9 nee-ded more guidance than children aged 9~12(P<0.05).In the comparison of each group, there was no significant difference between males and females(P>0.05).There was a significant difference in plaque clearance rates between Bass and Fones brushing methods in the anterior and posterior tooth areas(P<0.05).Conclusion:The Bass brushing method has a higher plaque clearance rate in children compared to the Fones brushing method, which is more suitable for older children. However, the Fones brushing method is simpler and easier to learn, and is more suitable for younger children.
