Effect of microscopic ultrasonic technique combined with C-pilot file in the treatment of curved and calcified/obstructive root canals in the elderly
Objective:To observe the clinical effect of microscopic ultrasonic technique combined with C-pilot file in the treatment of curved calcified/obstructive root canals in the elderly. Methods:The data of 122 elderly patients(a total of 142 affected teeth that 238 calcified root canals)who were clinically diagnosed with curved calcified/obstructive root canals from May 2022 to May 2023 and underwent combined treatment with microscopic ultrasonic technique combined with C-pilot file in our hospital were collected retrospectively.Statistical analysis was conducted on the success rates of root canal dredging in different tooth positions and at different calcified sites, treatment time, postoperative pain of affected teeth and the incidence of complications.Effect and safety of microscopic ultrasonic technique combined with C-pilot file in the treatment of curved calcified/obstructive root canals in the elderly were evaluated. Results:After treatment, the total patency rate of 238 curved calcified root canals was 84.87%.The success rates of root canal dredging for anterior teeth, premolars, and molars were 82.76%,87.34%,and 83.85%,respectively.The success rates of root canal dredging for crown 1/3,middle 1/3,and apex 1/3 were 87.60%,81.93%,and 82.35%,respectively.There was no statistically significant difference in the root canal pa-tency rate in terms of different tooth positions and different calcified sites(P>0.05).All root canal treatments were success-fully completed. The mean time for dredging and time for root canal filling was(38.56±7.51)min and(95.70±15.57)s,respectively.Based on the evaluation unit of the affected tooth, the incidence of postoperative acute pain was 7.75%(11/142),and the total incidence of complications was 1.41%(2/142).Conclusion:Applying microscopic ultrasonic technique combined with C-pilot file to treat curved and calcified/obstructive root canals in the elderly can achieve a high root canal pa-tency rate.Besides, the incidence rates of postoperative acute pain and complications are low, making the treatment a priority in clinic.
