Retrospective analysis of conservative treatment for 30 cases periapical cyst-like lesions by orthograde decom-pression and apical barrier
Objective:To evaluate the effect of conservative treatment orthograde decompression and apical barrier on healing of periapical cyst-like lesions. Methods:A total of 30 patients with periapical cystic-like lesions were retrospectively analysed. All treatments strategy were performed by orthograde decompression and apical barrier. After 3 to 24 months of post-operative follow-up,clinical and X-ray examinations were performed to evaluate the efficacy. Results:Sixteen cases were eval-uated as cured,13 cases were evaluated as improved, and 1 cases as ineffective. The healing rate of lesions in the group with-out cortical bone defects was significantly faster compared to those with unilateral cortical bone defects and bilateral cortical bone defects, with statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:Conservative treatment by orthograde decompression and apical barrier has a high success rate for periapical cyst-like lesions. The presence of cortical bone defect negatively affected osseous healing.
