A comparison of two obturation method for single-visit root canal treatment:iRoot SP combined with single-cone technique versus AH Plus combined with warm vertical condensation technique
Objective:To evaluate the effect of the iRoot SP combined with single-cone technique and AH Plus com-bined with warm vertical condensation technique applied in single-visit root canal treatment. Methods:From January 2020 to June 2022,152 patients that met the inclusion criteria were selected to do single-visit root canal treatment in the Department of Stomatology,Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University. The patients were allocated to two groups, the experimental group with 73 patients using iRoot SP as the sealer, combined with single-cone technique for root canal filling, and the control group with 79 patients using AH Plus as the sealer combined with warm vertical condensation technique for root canal filling.Time for root canal filling and quality of obturation were recorded and compared.Postoperative pains were assessed by the Heft-Parker visual analog scale(HP-VAS)in telephone follow-up 24 hours and 7 days after treatments, and the effects of the treatment were evaluated after 12 months. Results:There was no significant difference in the quality of obturation between the experi-mental group and the control group(P>0.05).The experimental group spent significantly less time on root canal filling than the control group(P<0.001),and revealed less pain 24 hours and 7 days after treatments(P<0.05).There was no signifi-cant difference between two groups in the effect of root canal treatment after 12 months follow-up(P>0.05),and the effective rate of both underwent single-visit root canal treatment were above 90%.Conclusion:Compared with the AH Plus combined with warm vertical condensation technique, the iRoot SP combined with single-cone technique can shorten the duration of sin-gle-visit root canal treatment, while effectively reduce the postoperative pain and ensure a favorable prognosis.
