Application of MDT approach in clinical management and teaching of the jaw cystic lesions
Periapical cysts, dentigerous cysts, odontogenic keratocysts, unicystic ameloblastomas and others are com-mon cystic lesions of the jaws. They are generally asymptomatic, but can cause impacted tooth/teeth,loosening and displace-ment of the teeth, occlusion disorder, bone expansion and facial deformity. These lesions are surgically treated, but when the standing tooth/teeth of the pulp vitality is associated with the cystic lesions, especially tooth roots are protruded into the cyst cavity,or impacted tooth is enclosed in the cavity of developmental cysts, different treatment options have been recommended to support tooth preservation.Successful results will be obtained via the individual strategy made by the multidisciplinary team(MDT),including oral surgeons, endodontists, prosthodontists and orthodontists. We present our experience of the clinical teaching in application of MDT approach for management of the cystic lesions of the jaws.
